New Year, New Career: Tips To Score  A Job In Tech In 2023

Have you made getting a new job in 2023 one of your new year’s resolutions? Well, the best way to find a high-paying job is in the tech industry and now could be the perfect time to start searching for a new opportunity! Research shows that the beginning of each year is the best time to look for a new job, with more open positions available.

The technology industry is ever evolving, and at a faster pace than ever before. This means companies looking for digital solutions experts.

Here’s a how-to guide to scoring a job in the tech industry:

  1. Forward-thinking organizations will focus on a candidate’s ability to learn.

Normally, companies look at a candidates’ credentials and existing skills. In 2023 the best companies, forward thinking ones, will move past this outdated approach that too often leads to overlooking more diverse and uniquely qualified candidates. They’ll be focusing on one’s potential. They’ll be hiring candidates who want to continue growing and learning. These are the kinds of people who will look at a problem from a different perspective and transform technology.

That being said…

  1. Get some new experience

Recruiters want to see initiative, they want to see clear passion for the work that you do. Showcasing any type of relevant work or project is a big thumbs-up for recruiters. Build a portfolio of any experience or testimonials you have that go along with your CV. Freelancing work, apps you’ve developed, websites you’ve built, blogs or papers you’ve written.

  1. Network, network, network

Build relationships with people in the industry, especially those who work in tech companies.  It can be an effective way to learn about job openings and get your foot in the door. Reach out to people on LinkedIn. Send them a subtle greeting message along with the role you are looking for. They’d be lucky to have you.

  1. Don’t “mass-apply” to jobs and look for companies that share your same values

It’s important to know what type of company you want to work for. Don’t be tempted to apply for every job you see. Chances are you’ll end up working for a company that doesn’t fulfill you. Take time to read the job description thoroughly and do a little research on the company’s mission, their company culture and values. It’s more than a salary and job title, it’s about day-to-day responsibilities.
